Dear Rekhaji, Thank you for sharing your message and the link to your incredible journey. Your story, beautifully encapsulated in the metaphor of the humble clay lamp, is both inspiring and illuminating. Dear Rekha, When we met you and Jay, many years ago, we realized just how special you were. Rekha, you are so accomplished, multi-talented and creative and Jay is her perfect counterpart. Your friendship has meant so much to us over the years. You are an exceptional couple, both nurturing and kind and we feel very fortunate to have them in our lives as our friends.David & Lana Kessler

The First thought word that comes to my mind when I think of Rekha is " The Iron Lady " - dont know why it has stuck in my head for all these years .. 23 yrs to be precise .. I am guessing its her work ethic or how she conducts herself and has been like this for so many years that i know her more personally than professionally .. I met Rekha at the start of my career and she is one of the few people because of which I changed my whole mindset of work and chose my path that I have today so I think this is a good place which will be documented .. so here it is for you Rekha - Thank you for doing that to me - Even at that stage when I was just a junior I got immense respect as a person and that is what you had taught me which I still carry on in my daily life .. Respect from the most junior to most senior most person we meet it starts with Respect ... that is what i have learnt from you and will always cherish .. I know Rekha in a more. personal zone as being one of the most sensitive person to small details which is endearing and it hasnt changed since i know her ... which makes her very consistent and dependable .. Moving back to The first quote The Iron Lady - 23yrs back here was this Woman who was progressive , Demanded her work. and always had a humility to it .. which I hadnt come across as i was just 20 yrs old . It shaped how I should look at a professional .. a woman .. Spell bounding and in someway I think she still has that kind of spell on me .. cause when I Still meet her today .. she has me nicely wrapped around her ( with Joy ) I might add .. and for time to come. Thank you for being in my life - My Apprecaition to your craft .. you as a human being .. a Friend .. the list is endless ... Just thank you ..Alan Fernandes

Dear Rekha, What a beautiful journey!!! "There is no greater art than compassion and selfless- love." When one can achieve this, he has won!!! I did not know you mom left at your age 13. Dear Rekha It has been an utmost pleasure to be able to call you our friend over the umteen years. I can't say for sure where we met, or when or how but from the start there has always been a special warmth between us. It is like we've known each other forever, never a moment of awkwardness, never the feeling that we've skipped a beat. Conversation is consistently smooth and jovial; the more I know you the more I respect you. I know for sure that I can always count on you if Yasmin or I are ever in need. On top of all your sincerity, you're also an amazing artist. I've been very impressed by the paintings you have shared with me and look forward to seeing more in the future. You're a beautiful person, inside and out and I'm glad to have you in our lives. Naushir & Yasmin LalaniNaushir Lalani

Rekhajani, WOW, it has been a few decades since we first met. At that time you were designing belts then bedding, then designer pillows, then many other things in between, then dog beds, and your masterpiece..... designing Jay. Whenever I spend time with you and Jay it feels like a sunrise, a fresh start. From singing songs together to drinking many glasses of wine, we have built a bond. Or maybe those moments when we have laughed or shed a tear together while taking a shot of tequila...or two. Your story will always be so inspiring and uplifting to hear and I am happy to be a part of your journey. To many more endeavors ahead. Love, Catherine & Kenia BerriosKenia Berrios

Rekha I was so delighted going through your story. My God you have gone through a lot. Struggle and success and the hard work and mind that you put in all the businesses you have run. Your paintings and art are so inspirational.Rekha you got the best life partner who encouraged you to grow and become what you are today. It needs grit and strength to grow in business and you acquired it through life experience. What a roller coaster ride you have gone through. I salute you in every way that you have balanced life and business by loving all your family and friends equally. The love in you for all people and for all you do is incredible. You are a true inspiration. I loved reading every line and remembered our school days. I remember doing garba with your Mom in your living room. Those memories will never be forgotten. I remember Indiraben and have met her a few times when I went to Rajkot. I remember Arvind, Vasanti and Naluben distinctly.I have met the other brother but faint memories. Love everything you do is your gurumantra and you have achieved all success by that.So delighted to have you as a friend and great times spent together in our childhood days. I love you Rekha.Hersha Sethia

Dear Rekha What a wonderful website you have created describing your wonderful achievements. I will always have fond memories of growing up together and even attending school in Panchgini together for a year. Remember we used to love eating puris and theplas at home and keep them in our pockets while playing as we didn't get to eat them at Boarding School. We used to cycle to Ba and Bapuji's house (Prabhu Nivas) and celebrate Holi together by spraying colour on each other. Do you remember how all of us siblings used to play in the water tanks during the hot summers. These are just a few of the fun memories from our childhood. I also have joyful and fun memories of coming to visit you in America from celebrating your 50th birthday to you showing us around New York. You are an incredible host when we visit you, always making time for us and taking us to the most fabulous places. I'm looking forward to making many more memories with you over the coming years.Vasanti Shukla

Dear Rekha Aunty, it was 34 years ago when I first met you when you and Jay Uncle were in Rajkot during my 16th birthday. From that day till last weekend when I saw the two of you, you have always been warm, generous, caring, positive and lots of fun! What you have achieved in business and in art is absolutely inspirational! I truly enjoy the time I spend with you and Jay Uncle. I look forward to seeing you guys soon!Sachin

Dear Rekha, Thank you for sharing your story with me and Jen. What an inspiring message of perseverance, learning more about yourself and your limitless potential through deep personal reflection, and your ongoing passion for what really matters in life! It has been my privilege to work with you and Jay over the past 6 years. Your integrity shines through in all that you do, and I feel grateful to have had an opportunity to get to know you better through the disruption of the pandemic. Thank you for your friendship and wishing you and Jay the very best in life. You both deserve it! Your friends, Kevin and Jen GriffinKevin Griffin

Hi Rekha Aunty - It’s been lovely working with you. The way you absorb pressure, stay calm and make decisions is something I’m still learning from you. Even today you are so workaholic and passionate and this keeps us on our toes to match your work ethics. I’m so proud to call you my New York family. Wish you loads of success and hope you keep shining and growing.Ajesh Kabra

Rekha’s idea to put together her Journey on paper during the Pandemic was just an amazing experience for me to watch-I was so impressed, it felt as if Rekha signed up to run the 26 mile New York City marathon. The end result is as amazing with Amar’s help to put the photos in place-she has put every product she made and every person she came across during her travel. The last time I felt like this was at the 1993 Exhibition of her Paintings at Taj Art Gallery, in Mumbai - 12 Paintings sold out of 18 at this one week Exhibition. Not to forget all the wine partners on this journey that we have enjoyed during these years, hope we will continue our travels to the Napa Valleys, and Bordeauxs of the world. Love Jay Gadhvi❤️Jay Gadhvi

Dear Rekha, Jay was already our (me and Tarcisio) friend for a few years when we received the happy news that he was gettingmarried. A few months after the wedding I finally got to meet Rekha on our trip to Bahia, Brazil. It was the start of a beautiful friendship, full of trips, shared experiences, and love that lasts for more than 30 years. Even though it seemed like we could have a hard time communicating (Rekha couldn't speak Portuguese and I couldn't speak English), we developed an immediate bond. Rekha's energy, kindness, and passion for life charmed me from the very beginning. Our friendship is marked by many visits to each other homes (in NY and Minas Gerais) and many trips to different places (Campos do Jordao, Rio de Janeiro, Argentina, Chile, France, and many others) each one of them very fond to my heart. It was with Rekha that I got to see snow for the first time, to have my first experience shopping in NY, and share many amazing dinners full of music and laughs. Rekha, always remember that you and Jay are part of our family and we love you very much! Best regards, MariaMaria Helena Cardoso de Sousa

Fibi this website was such a great idea and glad you shared your wonderful journey with everyone. It really shows all of your accomplishments and talents in life. I'm so happy that I could be part of your journey. Since the beginning, you have made me feel so special when we spent time together, of course with Fua as well (can't forget him!). I remember our first wine experience together when Vinay and I came to visit you in New York. We went to Club 21 on 52nd St. for dinner. I still can't believe you made them move us from the private room to the highly energy powered room. We enjoyed a 4 course meal with wine and then took a tour through their wine cellar (which use to be a hidden liquor room during the prohibition). As years moved on, we enjoyed dinner and wine at home and at different locations. From walking in the park and the streets of NYC - I have experienced the city like no other, thanks to you. Oh, don't forget the Lychee Bar we went to for happy hour and had tons of lychee drinks. We then proceeded to dinner at a local mom and pop restaurant. As the years went by, work got busier for both of us, but we were still able to meet up and enjoy new things. Oh, and I have to mention our trip to wine country in Long Island. That was a blast and then Italian dinner on the way home. A few years ago when you were visiting, we met you and your friend up for happy hour at the Ritz Carlton. This is the day you met Christina. You made our evening so special with great conversation, cheese plate, drinks and champagne to toast our engagement. We really enjoyed this evening (can't remember what we talked about) but it was a lot of fun. Christina said that she loved you from the day she met you and that you welcomed her with open arms. Then in 2018, we (Fua, Fibi, Christina and I) took a amazing/memorable/exciting trip through NAPA. What an experience! We hit up about 3-4 wineries a day. Every place was unique and beautiful. Then every night we went to dinner with more wine. You and Christina were even able to shop a little, tagging Fua and I along. This was definitely one of my best trips I have ever taken and will never forget. Christina and I talk about it all the time and she misses your chai and breakfast that you made her every morning. I know Covid, messed things up last year and we could not continue our new tradition. This year, we have our new little princess, Divya, but hopefully next year we all can go back and create new memories! I know life gets busy, but I need to do a better job of having happy hours. We definite enjoy them and love catching up with you and Fua. I know everyone in the family has their own experiences with you. But for me, the love of food and wine is something we share together and that can never be taken away. I love you Fibi and I hope you enjoy your retirement soon. Christina and I cannot wait for you to come down and spend time with us whenever you are able to. I know Divya will love you just as much as we do and cannot wait to make more memories. Love, JayJay A. Shah

Dear Rekha, As I read your memoir, I was struck by how beautifully it is written – it captures the essence of Rekha: the artist, the entrepreneur, the traveler, and the deep love you have for Jay, your family, friends and wine. A striking image that is etched in my mind is that of a thirteen year old Rekha watching with confusion and anxiety as her mother lay very sick in bed – with no clue of what was happening, and what would come next. It is very difficult and painful to lose your mother at such a tender age. Your mother, father and Jay have been a constant source of inspiration and strength for you and you have made them very proud by how you have lived your life. For me what is very touching is the way you and Jay are always lending a helping hand to your family and friends, especially in their time of need. I remember with much gratitude the tireless efforts you made to plan and guide us for Amrita and Andrew’s wedding. You are always so full of fun and open to experiences – a true role model for your nieces and nephews for whom you wrote your memoir. Love, NirmalaNirmala Batheja

Rekha, You are a force of nature, an energetic networker and a boundless optimist. Love to you and Jay.JENNIFER MARKS

Wow, this is one hell of a write-up. My wife Mita and I have known Rekha and Jay for a long time now. But I did not know Rekha has such intense personality! One reason could be that she lost her mother at such a young age. And she created her very first portrait of her mother from memory ! I completely agree with her when she says “With time you realize that life is not about the money you make in a lifetime, or the brand of car you drive. On the contrary, it is about the difference you’ve made to a person’s life, with God working through you. And yes, the best things in life are the people we love, the places we’ve been to, and the memories we’ve made along the way.” All the best to you Rekha.Kailash Agarwal

I should also say “ my journey with Rekha “ It’s been wonderful knowing you , somehow there was an instant connect between us even though we did bot work together when we met . However , the Rekha I have come to know through these pages is someone I am even more proud of . Looking forward to meeting , spending time with you over many glasses of wine . Am Sure your story of achievements will Keep growing Wishing you and Jay the bestNeerah Jain

Dear Rekha, Hi how are you? Hope you are doing well along with Jay and all is well. Say hi to him. Finally, I did get the chance to read your well written and narrated life story. You have surely journeyed through life, it’s ups and downs with strong conviction, faith and belief in God, and family. Very commendable effort, pleasing and easy reading. Keep up your attitude and outlook to life. Do not change. You have a real Autobiography already written. Kudos to you!! Calls for a wine celebration. Happy to be in the circle of your family, friends and colleagues. Great job!! Madhu/VishuVishu Batheja

Dear Rekha, This “story” about your journey needs to be published as an “inspiring novel”! You are an artist who is so versatile that you were able to express your art in so many different ways and form. You remind me of Shri Ravindranath Tagore!” Jay and you are a great couple, and wonderful human beings. May your journey together bring you lots of joy and adventure and may you continue your artistic expression with passion in any form you want-because you can! Love always.Charu Mehta

Dear Rekha, your story is inspiring and your accomplishments many. Through it all you've remained a down to earth, caring and loving person with a good heart, and the most important thing for me is that you take good care of my friend Jay! I have known you for many years and we have shared some memorable holidays, get togethers and good meals together. Now that we are your neighbors I am sure we will do a lot more of that. Friends are individuals who know and understand each other, they have a mutual affection and encourage us and even make us laugh! I am fortunate to have you as a friend, and as an adopted sister! I hope we stay in each other's lives for many more years to come. I wish you all the health and happiness in your journey.Nitin Doshi

Dear Rekha Aunty, Such an inspiring story Rekha Aunty!! Truly inspirational, reflecting you so well, your creativity, passion and hardwork. Waiting to hear about the next chapters. Best wishes for your future endevours.Priya Halankar

I have known Rekha since early 90's. Rekha and Jay have been our friends for last 30 plus years. Passing of the years has made this friendship deeper and stronger. Let me speak about the professional side of Rekha- She is artistic, she is authentic, she is workaholic, she is creative and deeply drenched into everything she does. She is painfully persistent. Whether it is belts, or bed sheets or bed covers, or it is pillows or for that matter dog beds ,the work has to be beautiful and exclusive. In anything Rekha is involved, the mantra ,is that she must give her 100 plus plus percent and expects at least a 100 in return. You can not fault her for that. As a friend, she is marvelous with a deep sense of understanding of what friendship means . She is kind and caring Life's few pleasures and that includes her friendship and you could take it to the bank.avtar ganju

Rekha, what an amazing journey !!!!! and it has been a joy ride to be a part of this journey from our Creative days ...we have shared laughters ..tears ...food ..fun ....fought..made up...had fun again..danced ...and eat more food and did crazy stuff...do you remember the horse cart ride with Radhesh ,Pinky Mayur in Mumbai...or when Lionel made crepes for us u me Sonal in Paris....ahhh so many memories ... ...but the reality is you and Jay are a part of my life and Its a blessing to have you both in my life.I am waiting for the day you get back to painting I know how much joy this gives you ....and we see your work again in a art gallery .... your Journey in the fashion world needs a separate book ..all the amazing beautiful work you did creating so many amazing pcs the hard work, the sweat ,the tears ,the joy and ...the drama involved .. but most important how it helped so many countless people in India -Brazil-China and USA and one of them is Me...Thank you for always being there ....Lots of Love and Blessings .Ajay Shrivastav

Rekha Aunty, Truly and inspiring journey with lots to learn from and so many interesting details, truly an entertaining read. For me you are a motherly figure, I first came to know you when I was in college, I cannot forget all the times that you sent me such nice Indian sweets, it made me feel like someone was there for me and I was a lot closer to home. Lately it has been so nice interacting with you so candidly during my business trips to NYC, you are such a simple, straight forward and an amazing and kind hearted soul. I wish you all the best in any endeavour that you might take on. Lots of best wishes and love - VishwanshuVishwanshu Agarwal

I love Rekha's focus and responsiveness to ANY challenge!! We have only worked together for a short time, however, I have found Rekha to be a very responsive & effective communicator and purveyor of quality products. I look forward to many years of partnership especially beautiful products from India! I also enjoyed seeing Rekha's fine art paintings, as I also am a painter! This explains her ability to focus on beautiful and quality products....we painters do love beautiful and finely crafted things! 🙂Mari SanGiovanni

Dear Rekha, This is very inspiring indeed! Right from the start, with you self description, and your inspiring quote "I am a big believer in the function and emotion of design. If you hear a voice within you telling you that you will fail as a painter or artist, then, by all means, paint! That voice will be silenced. There is never a right time in life to do great things." to your many accomplishments, it is a great Journey! I am touched by how well you remember and appreciate the people in your life! and i sense you count that - along with your 'true love' and your family and friends your true wealth! I am happy you include me in part of that wealth! Keep creating, and stay beautiful! love, OmOm Batheja

Dear Rekha, You have lived a blessed life I admire your attitude through your life's journey. The memoirs are beautifully written, thanks to the convent education. Now that you are semi retired take make time for your art you are a highly accomplished artist on so many levels. It is the best meditation. I hope we can make it to NY in these covid times. Rekha it is a pleasure to know you and read about your life. I remember the first time we met at Charu's house for a wedding. You came over to look at fabric. I did not sell you any but we became fast friends. I never think of going to N.Y. without seeing you and Jay. We have spent many an evening drinking wine and talking. Many nights on the couch. Hope this pandemic ends and we can be together again. Much love JoyceJoyce Seigle

What you have achieved is amazing, Rekha. You have documented everything about yourself in detail so beautifully. It is a labour of love - like everything you do. Keep spreading your love my friend and stay well. The world is a happier place because of you. Lots of loveGagan Singh

Rekha ...you symbolize so much that we look for in people and rarely find ! You are a true friend ..and that's the biggest quality that you have . Apart from this , your talent , and the ability to live life to its fullest , in the face of all challenges is what we all draw inspiration from. Nothing is beyond you ...and once you decide on something ..you dedicate yourself to it with the devotion that ensures success. One can only sit back and admire how you have negotiated the twists and turns of life ...and come out winning every time . So our prayer is that you continue to do this ...and always lead with the zest and commitment that you have and exhibit. More power to you ! The treasure house of my memories is full of the fragrance of your being and our friendship . May the garden always bloom ! Love and hugsAmar Raj Singh
